Every device connected to the Internet needs to broadcast an IP address
in order for other devices (e.g. servers) to know where to send requested
items (e.g. web pages). Therefore, to hide your IP address in Internet
Explorer really means to change your IP address, as making it completely
invisible would be impossible.
The article on this page will describe configuring your browser to
using special servers on the Internet as relays, which will cause the
websites that you visit to see the relay IP's, and not your own.
Why would you want to hide the IP address of Internet Explorer? Well,
you probably already have some reasons that led you to this page. Increased
privacy ranks high, along with a wide variety of entrepreneurial, entertainment,
and travel uses.
a- Open Internet Explorer if it's not open already
b- Click on the dropdown menu for Tools ->
Internet Options
Tic the box for "Use a proxy server for
your LAN" and also the box "Bypass
proxy server for local addresses"
Using the information at the bottom of this page, enter an IP address
and port number for a valid proxy server that you would like to relay
through.
The "address" is simply an IP address of a proxy server that
will relay your Internet traffic. You may either use free
public proxies that you'll find on various websites, or private
proxies from a service such as iPrivacyTools. Wherever
you find proxy IP's, you'll also find "ports", usually in
this format: [IPADDRESS]:[PORT], such as 123.12.12.123:80.
If your goal in changing the IP address of Internet Explorer is to
simply remain anonymous to websites while surfing (viewing pages), then
free proxies may suffice. However, it is not a good idea to submit any
forms with usernames/passwords or personal/financial information. It's
almost impossible to be sure who is running the relay server, and whether
or not they might intercept such data. There are other risks
as well. If you're going to be logging into secure pages, shopping,
or submitting personal information anywhere, then you should really
use private proxies from a professional service (ours
is one example).
Congratulations - you now know how to hide your IP address
in Internet Explorer!
*Regardless of which type of relay you use, to re-establish your direct
Internet connection at anytime, simply repeat steps 1-3 above, but in
step #3 you'll want to disable the box that says "Use proxy server
for your LAN".
